Power BI and SSRS-Better Together
What are the pros and cons of SSRS compared to Power BI? How can you benefit from Power BI on-premises?
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is Microsofts grand-father technology for reporting. Although being over-worked with SQL 2016 not all reporting requirements can be solved. Power BI on the other side is a young, agile and powerful reporting technology - but currently only available as a cloud service serving the interactive reporting approach.
Today, many organizations are not willing or able to put their data into a cloud service for analysis which limits the adoption of Power BI. Microsoft got onto that train and announced the on-premises version of Power BI as part of SSRS for the upcoming SQL Server (vNext). At present available as a technical preview the first sights look promising - but there open questions: Which features will be available for Power BI on-prem? Can I use custom visuals? What about Power Query?
