Fabric in Perspective - Interfacing Fabric With the World Beyond
Proposed session for SQLBits 2026TL; DR
Microsoft Fabric is a SaaS analytics platform that needs external components. Learn to architect secure, scalable solutions with proper networking, identity management, and Azure service integration.
Session Details
Microsoft Fabric is a software-as-a-service platform, meaning that it is essentially a whole analytics platform in a box. But that box does not exist in vacuum, and even with a SaaS solution, there are still several components that need to be considered outside of Fabric. For example, components such as data sources, gateways and keyvaults all need to be part of an analytics architecture, as having a good understanding of networking and identity management - not to mention the security aspects often overlooked in a SaaS solution!
This session will explore the world outside of Fabric from the perspective of an architect, and look at networking, identity management, interfacing with components outside of Fabric, and give you a good grasp of what else your solution need to take into account in order for Fabric to run in an optimal way.
You will leave this session with a firm understanding of how Fabric relates to other Azure services, how to best connect to and use external services and components, and how to architect a secure, scalable solution - without breaking neither the bank nor best practice security guidelines!
