2024 Training Days

Presenting 2024’s selection of training days, encompassing a deep dive into a range of subjects with some of the best data trainers in the world.

  • 08:00 Registration opens and breakfast served.

  • All training days run simultaneously across the venue from 09:00 – 17:00 with co-ordinated breaks.
  • All training days include regular refreshment breaks and a lunch stop to rest, recharge, and chat to fellow delegates.
  • No evening events planned, but if you’re staying over the night beforehand, why not join us in the Aviator on Monday night to meet the training day speakers for an informal drinks reception.

Improve performance with DAX and Power BI

Description

When you create a Power BI report, you might hit some performance issues when you have a large amount of data, or complex data models, or complex DAX expression in your measures. The first goal of this tutorial is to discover possible bottlenecks analyzing the execution of DAX calculations using tools such as DAX Studio and VertiPaq Analyzer. You will see how to capture and read the most important information from a DAX query plan. With this knowledge, the next step is to evaluate different strategies to improve the query performance. During this training, you will learn the most common patterns that could have performance issues and what are possible workarounds to solve them.

The training is delivered as a seminar, and the content is very dense. You can try the same techniques on your notebook during the course, but you should consider getting notes during the seminar and practice later.

The goal is to optimize the report execution, and not the refresh time. Thus, this training only considers the performance of DAX expressions, and does not cover performance of refresh operation that are related to M code in Query Editor.

The examples are provided using Power BI, but the concept of this training can be applied also to Power Pivot, Analysis Services Tabular, and Azure Analysis Services.
