This presentation explores the necessity of integrating ethical considerations alongside technical excellence when implementing artificial intelligence projects. While a project may succeed from a technical standpoint, it can fail if it overlooks the ethical implications for those whose jobs are impacted.
With the rapid increase in out-of-the-box AI services, it has become almost trivial to plan, build and deploy services at speed. This presentation highlights how that can lead to projects that reach full deployment before all the necessary ethical considerations have been made and gives practical tips for how to run these kinds of projects going forward. One of the key points, is the need to include HR early in the process so that they can guide and support instead of simply reacting after the project is deployed.
Finally, before taking questions, the talk considers the pitfalls of simply refusing to develop projects that may impact people's jobs. While this is a principled stance, it can lead to a loss of control when competition, consultants or strategic partners cause the business to feel the need to react.
