Gathering Requirements for Reporting Projects

It is a fact that many reporting projects fail. Some estimates put this as high as 80%. Why is this? Often, a project can be doomed for failure before it even starts. One if the biggest reasons is a lack of complete and well-designed requirements. Simply asking the user what they want to see is one of the quickest ways to failure! Poor requirements can lead to unrealistic goals, bad adoption, or even impossible asks.
