We have some exciting news to share – thanks to your incredible generosity at SQLBits this year, we were able to raise a whopping £3,237.09 for Guide Dogs! But that’s not all! This amazing amount allows us the privilege of not only donating to a fantastic cause but also naming one of the very guide dogs in training!
Drumroll please…
We’d like to introduce you to Annie! This is her first PAWtrait!
We gave Scott Stauffer the honour of naming Annie, as he is an awesome advocate for Guide Dogs.
You might be wondering why Scott chose the name Annie. Well, there’s a heartwarming story behind it.
Why Annie?
Scott had been involved in the training of another guide dog, who we’ll affectionately call “Original Annie” (OG Annie for short). OG Annie has since been matched with a veteran and is now working as a life-saving PTSD service dog. In fact, OG Annie has already made a profound impact, helping her veteran partner with sleep terrors, one of the three key ways these incredible dogs make such a difference.
This story truly exemplifies the life-changing impact these specially trained guide dogs have, and it’s all thanks to your support at SQLBits. The funds raised will go towards covering the costs of training and matching Annie with someone in need.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated through the swag sale, feedback donations, and direct contributions to the on-site team. Your generosity will (and has already) make a real difference in someone’s life.
So next time you attend SQLBits, not only will you be gaining valuable knowledge and connecting with fellow data enthusiasts, but you’ll also be contributing to a cause that makes a real impact. Stay tuned for updates on Annie’s training journey – we can’t wait to share her story with you!
