SQLBits’ Charity of 2026 is…Code Club

SQLBits’ charity of 2026 is Code Club, a fantastic organisation dedicated to helping young people learn to code and get creative with technology.

Part of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Code Club supports a global network of volunteers and educators running free coding clubs for children aged 9–13 (and beyond), giving them the opportunity to build games, animations, and digital projects while developing confidence and problem-solving skills.

This year, we’re proud to be partnering with Code Club and weaving their mission throughout the SQLBits experience, with a number of opportunities across the week for attendees to get involved, learn more, and support the next generation of developers.

On Wednesday afternoon, you can join Justin Bird and Sarah Roberts, Code Club’s Community Manager for Wales, for a dedicated session on Running Code Clubs. This practical, experience-led session will explore how to set up and sustain a successful club, including insights into both general and neurodiverse-focused environments. From project ideas to engagement techniques, and from challenges to rewards, it’s an open, collaborative discussion aimed at anyone interested in creating welcoming and impactful coding spaces for young people.

On Wednesday evening, we’re hosting Code Club Experience – for Adults! a relaxed, hands-on session where you can drop in and experience what a typical Code Club feels like. Expect creative coding challenges, small projects to tinker with, and a chance to see first-hand the kind of activities young people engage with. Whether you’re curious, nostalgic, or just fancy trying something a bit different, it’s a great way to explore the Code Club approach. And if it sparks something, you’ll also be able to find out how to get involved yourself.

We’ll also be welcoming the next generation directly on Saturday morning, with a special SQLBits-themed Code Club for children from Newport and the surrounding area; a chance for them to get hands-on with coding in a fun and supportive environment, right at the heart of the event. You can register for that here.

As part of this partnership, we’ll be donating all proceeds from swag sales at SQLBits to Code Club, helping them continue their work in communities across the UK and beyond. If you’d like to support them further, we encourage you to visit their website and consider making a donation.

Code Club’s work is about more than just learning to code. It’s about opening doors, building confidence, and inspiring future careers in technology. We’re delighted to support that mission at SQLBits 2026, and we hope you’ll join us in getting involved.
