The 5W’s of the SQLBits Run

We are pleased to announce the SQLBits Aviation 2024 Run is open for sign-ups!

You’re probably thinking, SQLBits is a data conference, why are we talking about running?!

What is the SQLBits Run?

Everyone who joined in the SQLBits Run last year!

The SQLBits run is a mini event within an event that brings together data professionals and running enthusiasts in a unique blend of technology and physical activity before or after hours depending on which of our two runs you’d like to attend. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just getting started, or perhaps would just like some exercise during the week, we’ve got you covered.

The SQLBits Run, held at SQLBits every year, is not about racing against the clock but about connecting with like-minded individuals in the community and allows you to bond over something other than just data. Lace-up your running shoes, and let’s dive into the details.

When, where and why?

We host a small run that is just a gathering of runners who like being up and at it in the early hours of the morning (Fri, 22 Mar 2024 06:00 – 07:00 GMT) which you can RSVP for here!

You can also join our ‘main’ running event (Wed, 20 Mar 2024 18:00 – 19:00 GMT) which includes photographs, a free t-shirt, and a new group of friends, keep in mind you need to book your place before 15th Feb to guarantee a T-shirt. You can do so here.

All the details for when, what, and how are on the ticket sign-up pages (tickets are free we just need to know how many people will be joining us for health and safety reasons!)

Get prepared!

Before you hit the pavement (or in our case, the runway?!), proper preparation is key. Here are some tips to ensure you’re ready for the SQLBits Run:

  1. Hydration and Nutrition: Stay well-hydrated in the days leading up to the run. It’s worth getting a water bottle ready and something you find comfortable to run with, hydration is SUPER important!
  2. Gear: Ensure your running shoes are in good condition and suitable for 5k, we’d recommend a different pair of trainers than the ones you’d wear at the conference the next day, as it might get muddy/rainy! Bring along moisture-wicking clothing to stay comfortable during the run. Don’t forget your fitness tracker or smartwatch to monitor your progress if that’s something you enjoy tracking!
  3. The Essentials: And by this… we mean your special edition SQLBits t-shirt! You will be able to pick these up throughout the week at the SQLBits Info Desk.
  4. Warm-Up: Do a few stretches and make sure you are comfortable and ready to run (or jog, or walk!) as we’d hate to encounter any injuries or difficulties. Pace yourself, it’s not a race but some friendly fun!

The SQLBits Run is not just a race; it’s an opportunity to combine the passion for data with the joy of running. By following these tips and tricks, you’ll be well-prepared to navigate the course and make the most of this unique event. Lace-up, embrace the challenge – both in technology and on the running track. See you at the finish line!
