DBA vs. Overabundance: Where to start troubleshooting?
With features ranging from replication to always on availability groups, constantly expanding to include everything from StreamInsight to Hadoop, the life of a SQL Server DBA while exciting and interesting is now so feature rich it can be overwhelming at times. This can be even more challenging when it comes to troubleshooting.
To complement all the new features the DBA now has a growing suite of tools to choose from. Everything from new perfmon counters to changing DMV's; profiler trace deprecation to extended events, with so much diagnostics data available it is sometimes hard to know the best tool for the job.
In this presentation I will show you the methodology I use of breaking down SQL Server into its simplest components giving you the knowledge required to choose the required tool for the situation regardless of the feature.
