Building a Batch Control System in SQL Server
The purpose of a batch control system is to create, control and monitor the running of batches of work or processing that is carried out within a system. A batch control system is a separate system in its own right and does not interfere with the systems it is controlling and monitoring. The design principles can be applied to any system that does batch processing. This session will show you how to build a batch control system from first principles within SQL Server so that you always know which jobs are running as expected, have failed or are running slowly. You will be able to take the code away after the session and have a working batch control system which you can modify or enhance for your own special needs or just use straight away. Additionally I will not be growing a goatee beard in order to deliver this session.

I have been an independent contractor for 19 years and before that I worked for a software house for 5 years in the late 80's. I started out as a Lotus 1-2-3 developer and then did database development with Paradox. That soon became Access development which progressed to Access with SQL Server in a client server environment. Now I tend to work as a SQL Server developer.
