Accelerating the data warehouse with columnstore indexes
xVelocity columnstore indexes, new in SQL Server 2012, were not just designed to make data warehouses run slightly faster, but massively faster. To make this possible, a completely new approach to index storage and utilisation has been implemented by Microsoft in the SQL Server engine; something that must now also be implemented by data warehouse developers and DBAs. With a balance of guidance and demos, this session will look at the benefits and restrictions of columnstore indexes, how they are implemented within SQL Server, and how you can use them.
